Tanto 短刀 (daggers)
A tanto is a Japanese dagger that is
worn in the sleeve or belt. Hanwei Forge makes matching
wakizashi and tanto for many of their katana. The shinken blades are all
hand forged hi-carbon steel and are differentially tempered with a traditional
clay method.
The Tori is a folded Swedish powdered steel Tanto with 11 1/4" blade with
bohi. Brown iron fittings have a crane and armor theme. Brown texture
lacquered saya. The Tori Tanto is built on a forged and folded blade with the handle wrapped
in the highest quality ray skin. The Crane and Armour theme is carried through
the furniture while the Saya matches the textured brown of the katana. This is
undoubtedly one of the most elegant mounts ever crafted by CAS/Hanwei.

The Practical Tanto offers excellent quality at a great price.
The blade is hand-forged high-carbon steel and differentially tempered using a
traditional claying method to produce a HRC60 on the edge (ha) and a HRC40 on
the back (mune). The temper line (hamon) is authentic and prominent. The
fittings (koshirae) are superbly antiqued adding to the aesthetics of the set.
The saya is done in a deep black lacquer and the sageo is black Japanese cotton.

The Practical Plus Tanto provides a very economical cutting
tanto, but uses more traditional fittings and construction methods. The blade is
hand-forged high-carbon steel and differentially tempered using a traditional
claying method (HRC 60 edge, HRC 40 spine) with a medium (chu) kissaki. The
temper line (hamon) is evident and prominent. The Practical Plus Tanto uses a
flat black saya and a black Japanese cotton sageo. The tsuka has genuine ray
skin (same) and the tsuka-ito is black synthetic leather for better gripping
qualities. The antiqued fittings on this set are decorated in a Japanese dogwood
motif with a beautiful antiqued black sunburst tsuba. A great econimcal tanto
with fantastic quality.

The Great wave tanto has a hand-forged T10 high-carbon steel
blade (nagasa) and is differentially tempered using a traditional claying
method. The tsuba, fuchi, & kashira are made of black iron and marked with the
Tomoe crest (mon). The temper line (hamon) is evident and prominent. It has a
deeply lacquered black saya with a one-piece brass habaki construction. The
sageo is made of premium woven Japanese black cotton. The handle on the tanto is
an attractive ribbed buffalo horn.

The Wind & Thunder tanto has a hand-forged 1065 high-carbon
steel blade (nagasa) and is differentially tempered using a traditional claying
method. It is fitted with the black iron Raiden tsuba and Tomoe mon motif fuchi
and kashira. The handle is wrapped in genuine ray skin (same) and the tsuka-ito
and sageo are premium Japanese black cotton. The saya is done in a deep black
lacquer and the sageo is black Japanese cotton.

The Yoshimitsu Tanto has been discontinued by CAS Hanwei - We
only have a few in stock and have discounted the price by 36% off retail.
Yoshimitsu, of the Edo period, was regarded as one of the
three greatest swordsmiths of Japanese history, but his tantos are revered as
the best. In Japanese society, gift giving was an integral part of proper
etiquette and rewards for service were usually bladed weapons. For the Tokugawa
family, blades by Yoshimitsu and his descendants were thought to be extremely
auspicious. The Yoshimitsu Tanto is made to honor this great smith by
replicating one of his surviving blades. The forged T10 high-carbon blade, with
its distinctive temper line (hamon), is superb. The tsuka is ray skin (same)
wrapped and the kashira and kurikata are of buffalo horn. The kozuka and the
menuki are decorated in the hollyhock crest (mon) of the Tokugawa family. The
deeply lacquered scabbard with a Japanese cotton sageo complete this magnificent
piece.

The Tactical Tanto combines the best attributes of a traditional tanto with
modern features that make this an eminently practical tool. The genuine rayskin
grip and distal-tapered, edge-tempered blade (60HRC edge) with its distinctive
temper line are strictly tanto, but everything else is pure Paul Chen. The 7"
high-carbon blade is blued and under the rayskin a heavy tang provides strength
and enough weight for effective use of the pommel. A spring latch provides
positive retention in the powder-coated steel sheath, which is nylon-lined for
quiet operation. Two positions are provided for attaching the ViseClipâ„¢
mounting, allowing ultra-secure handle-up or handle-down carry.

The Warrior Series from Cold Steel are strong, good looking, and reasonably
priced. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel), are
expertly made and finely crafted in blackened brass. The
Habaki (blade collar) is hand made out of brass and each
hilt is covered in Same' (ray skin) and tightly wrapped
in the traditional style with black cord. A beautiful
Menuki (a small ornamental sculpture inserted between
the ray skin and the cord wrappings on the handle)
enhances the sword's aesthetic appearance and makes for
a sword that is as traditional looking as we can
possibly make it. All feature fully sharpened 1055
carbon steel blades, each heat treated to a spring
temper. The O Tanto has a 13 1/4" blade and 6"
handle.
