Tanto 短刀 (daggers)
A tanto is a Japanese dagger that is
worn in the sleeve or belt. Hanwei Forge makes matching
wakizashi and tanto for many of their katana. The shinken blades are all
hand forged hi-carbon steel and are differentially tempered with a traditional
clay method.
The Tori is a folded Swedish powdered steel Tanto with 11 1/4" blade with
bohi. Brown iron fittings have a crane and armor theme. Brown texture
lacquered saya. The Tori Tanto is built on a forged and folded blade with the handle wrapped
in the highest quality ray skin. The Crane and Armour theme is carried through
the furniture while the Saya matches the textured brown of the katana. This is
undoubtedly one of the most elegant mounts ever crafted by CAS/Hanwei.

Each piece in the Tiger group has a hand-forged and folded K120C powder steel
blade with Bo-Hi and a short (ko) kissaki. Saya are deeply lacquered in black,
with inlaid brass bamboo leaves. The ray skin used on the tsuka is of the
highest quality, and the tsuka-ito and sageo are woven from best quality
Japanese cotton. The Fuchi, Kashira, Kojiri, Koiguchi and Kurigata are all made
from blackened bronzed iron, selectively detailed in gold. The Tsuba is made
from blackened iron, with a tiger inlaid in brass. The Habaki is of one-piece
brass construction.
The Orchid set is as quick as it is beautiful with a relatively light
blade of folded K120C and striking koshirae. The hamon is prominent and
the hada shows distinct layers. High quality ray skin (same) is used on
the tsuka, and the tsuka-ito and sageo on all three pieces are woven
from premium Japanese cotton. The tsuba of the katana and wakizashi is
of blackened iron, with an Orchid and Butterfly decoration inlaid in
silver, brass and copper. The saya are deeply lacquered in blue with
buffalo horn koiguchi and kurikata. The fuchi, kashira and kojiri are of
bronzed iron with silver and gold detailing. The habaki is of one-piece
brass construction. The katana and wakizashi feature a medium-length
(chu) kissaki.
The Bushido Tanto has a blade of hand-forged and folded K120C powder
steel. The saya is deeply lacquered with inlaid brass cherry blossom
(sakura) flowers. The blade of each are hand-forged and folded from
K120C powder steel. The saya are deeply lacquered in gold with inlaid
brass cherry blossom (sakura) flowers. The tsuka of the tanto is crafted
in gold-plated brass with decoration in relief. The sageo is woven from
premium Japanese cotton while the kojiri, koiguchi and kurikata are of
polished buffalo horn. The habaki is a one-piece brass construction.

The Practical Tanto offers excellent quality at a great price.
The blade is hand-forged high-carbon steel and differentially tempered using a
traditional claying method to produce a HRC60 on the edge (ha) and a HRC40 on
the back (mune). The temper line (hamon) is authentic and prominent. The
fittings (koshirae) are superbly antiqued adding to the aesthetics of the set.
The saya is done in a deep black lacquer and the sageo is black Japanese cotton.
The Practical Plus Tanto provides a very economical cutting
tanto, but uses more traditional fittings and construction methods. The blade is
hand-forged high-carbon steel and differentially tempered using a traditional
claying method (HRC 60 edge, HRC 40 spine) with a medium (chu) kissaki. The
temper line (hamon) is evident and prominent. The Practical Plus Tanto uses a
flat black saya and a black Japanese cotton sageo. The tsuka has genuine ray
skin (same) and the tsuka-ito is black synthetic leather for better gripping
qualities. The antiqued fittings on this set are decorated in a Japanese dogwood
motif with a beautiful antiqued black sunburst tsuba. A great econimcal tanto
with fantastic quality.
The Great wave tanto has a hand-forged T10 high-carbon steel
blade (nagasa) and is differentially tempered using a traditional claying
method. The tsuba, fuchi, & kashira are made of black iron and marked with the
Tomoe crest (mon). The temper line (hamon) is evident and prominent. It has a
deeply lacquered black saya with a one-piece brass habaki construction. The
sageo is made of premium woven Japanese black cotton. The handle on the tanto is
an attractive ribbed buffalo horn.
The Wind & Thunder tanto has a hand-forged 1065 high-carbon
steel blade (nagasa) and is differentially tempered using a traditional claying
method. It is fitted with the black iron Raiden tsuba and Tomoe mon motif fuchi
and kashira. The handle is wrapped in genuine ray skin (same) and the tsuka-ito
and sageo are premium Japanese black cotton. The saya is done in a deep black
lacquer and the sageo is black Japanese cotton.
The Warrior Series from Cold Steel are strong, good looking, and reasonably
priced. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel), are
expertly made and finely crafted in blackened brass. The
Habaki (blade collar) is hand made out of brass and each
hilt is covered in Same' (ray skin) and tightly wrapped
in the traditional style with black cord. A beautiful
Menuki (a small ornamental sculpture inserted between
the ray skin and the cord wrappings on the handle)
enhances the sword's aesthetic appearance and makes for
a sword that is as traditional looking as we can
possibly make it. All feature fully sharpened 1055
carbon steel blades, each heat treated to a spring
temper. The O Tanto has a 13 1/4" blade and 6"
handle.

While the Wakizashi and Tanto of the Raptor series
providing matching pieces for any of the Raptor katanas,
they are in their own right designed as very effective
cutting tools. Made in the blade style of James
Williams' personal Nami Ryu swords, these pieces will
allow the cutting practitioner to perfect techniques for
each of the three weapons, at the same time as they
complete an impressive display.
